I don’t understand the point of this:
The Charlotte Bobcats have discussed a trade to send forward Gerald Wallace to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.
The Cavaliers would use their trade exception to acquire Wallace, but have also pushed for a lottery-protected first-round pick for them to take on the two years and $22 million left on Wallace’s contract through the 2012-13 season, the source said.
Yay! This deal will push the Cavs from a 23 win team to a 27 win team. Who wants to pick 4th when you can pick 7th? Excellent idea, Mr. Gilbert.
But seriously, what’s the point in adding an aging, expensive wingman to this roster? Sure, you’re getting him for free, but still. Why? Now, getting an extra first round pick? OK, that’s cool.
Stop being in denial. This team stinks. The end. You can’t be adding expensive veterans, you’re only putting off the inevitable rebuild.
Gerald Wallace is not the answer.
[Update for clarification] If the Cavs end up getting Wallace and a first round pick, the trade is OK. I still don’t like adding expensive vets to this roster, but they’d have turned their trade exception into a first round pick. That’s admirable. However, if they pick up Wallace without netting that first rounder, I’ll lose my shit.
