Please be bluffing

Marc Stein reports:

As for Parker, Cleveland continues to tell teams that it doesn’t want to surrender a player it likes as much as the former Maccabi Tel-Aviv star for a mere draft pick — even a first-rounder — when the deep-pocketed Cavs can simply buy draft picks. So it’s conceivable, if that’s more than posturing, that Parker won’t be dealt before Thursday’s 3 p.m. trading deadline.

If this team doesn’t want to trade Anthony Parker for a first round draft pick, then I don’t know what to think. I mean, is that not crazy? What am I missing.

And hey, sure, Parker is great in the locker room. I’ll buy that. But this team just lost 26 straight games and they have the worst record in the NBA. I think the Cavs can afford to lose Anthony Parker’s leadership for the rest of the 2010-11 campaign.

But hey, if AP leaves, this whole thing could fall apart. Wouldn’t want that.

In other I-can’t-believe-it’s-true rumors, message board insiders are saying the Cavs have talked to the Blazers about Greg Oden.  I’m cool with taking a flyer on Oden. The Cavs won’t be contending any time soon, so Big Greg can take his sweet time recovering. No pressure. The goal should be to have him ready to contribute 20 minutes a night by the time the 2011, 2012 and 2013 lottery picks start leading the Cavs towards respectability.

Depending on what they’d give up for Oden, he’s pretty much a low-risk, high-reward player at this point. What do the Cavs have to learn.
